Do you already know what your true calling is? Why are you here on earth? That is quite a big question. Yet, if we ever dig deep within, we will all have a feeling somewhere that we have a certain purpose in our lives. And once we find it, the ‘puzzle pieces’ fall into place. Life suddenly becomes a lot more pleasant and easier. We regain the sense that we have meaning and feel energetic and happy.
In conversations with people who are not following their true calling, you hear that over time they developed a sense of helplessness. They are convinced that there is nothing they can do to change things. Often, they just sit through their days at work and get little energy from it. But they also don't really know how else to do it. Sometimes they have an indication of what their calling is, but they don't believe it is possible. (After all, money has to be earned, right?) But it could also be that you don't have the faintest idea what your true calling might be.
8 Characteristics
According to Tara Mohr There are 8 characteristics from which you can deduce whether something is your calling:
- You feel intensely frustrated about or experience pain regarding the status quo of a situation. That is to say, there is an intense emotional reaction to something you would like to be different.
- You have a strong vision (whether clear or still vague) about how things could be done differently regarding this situation/issue. This keeps recurring in your thoughts and won't leave you alone.
- You feel a lot of resistance. A part of yourself actually wants to run away from it and have nothing to do with it!
- You have a feeling somewhere along the line: ‘this is what I have to do’ or ‘this is my task in this world’.
- There are challenges, fears, and doubts, but when you actually do it, you feel a special sense of meaning and rightness. It then gives you an enormous amount of energy.
- You are nowhere near having everything you need to fulfill the task.
- Furthermore, you are not yet the person you need to be to fulfill the calling. You do not yet fully possess the qualities you require: further personal development is needed to do it well.
- The journey itself is what gives pleasure. The process and discovering the path to get there gives pleasure and meaning, and it is not so much the end result itself that matters!

Warme groet,
Katja
