More and more people seem to be running into it: being stressed or even experiencing burnout. And despite the fact that there are many common characteristics, the personal stories turn out to be very different. However, we often all have the same questions to start with: why is this happening to me, how did this come about, and what do we do now?

When I experienced my first burnout myself in 2012, these were certainly the questions that went first through my mind. I had learned all sorts of things about burnout during my studies for years. I had even attended the lectures of dr. prof. Hoogduin (one of the co-founders of the HSK group, specialized in treating burnouts). Also at the University of Nijmegen they couldn't seem to stop talking about the subject of burnout and all the research about it. So how could it be, that I myself had missed the well-known ‘red flags’ and was now suddenly sitting at home?

Besides receiving help from a psychologist and later also alternative medicine, my search was initially focused primarily on other people who had gone through similar experiences. What was their story? What had they learned? But above all: how had they overcome it? I soon discovered that the stories were very diverse and that what worked for someone else would not necessarily be the path to recovery for me. Eva Hamming came to the same conclusion and has written a beautiful book about it with the personal stories of various people. So for everyone looking for recognition, practical tools, and more information: her book comes out on November 20 2020 and you can order it here Enjoy reading!

How about you? Have you found your path to recovery yet? Or do you simply not understand all the people struggling with burnout these days? Even then, by the way, reading the book can be nice for reference 🙂
